Let's be honest, throughout high school we were told more about college than we heard our names. My teachers would compare and contrast high school to college, going on and on about how college professors would be, etc.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that today it's almost expected to go to college.
So why did I choose college? Well for one, my sister told me to look at college as if it was an investment. This isn't something I had to do. She explained that I would be investing MY time and money to study so that finding a job could (hopefully) come easier.
I would think about all the things she shared with me during my last year of high school and I've always wanted to have a college experience. To live on campus and meet people from different places was always on the brain.
So I think it boils down to the point that I want to have this experience and share it with fellow peers. And also because this band is just soooo AMAZING.
And now I have to state the obvious/generic answer:
I WANT A DEGREE AND A GOOD JOB TOO ONE DAY.
And in today's time you have to have some form of higher education to receive a decent (overworked/underpaying)job.
P.S. I made that Meme here :D
First of all I would just like to say that I just died I was laughing so hard at that picture. Where did you find that?? My school was the same in the way that they drilled college into our brains, so it was expected of us to go to college after high school. I also agree with you that if you want a good paying job you need to go to college. Unless you have some serous connections, or if you take over a family business. Besides, who wouldn't want to experience college? Like you said, why not college?
ReplyDeleteIm with Michelle, I just died laughing at the picture. But you had some good points on why you choose to come here and I like how you explained that our high school teachers use to go on and on about college. Alson I'm excited and glad that you choose to be in the band.
ReplyDeleteYour sister gave you some GREAT advice abot investing your time!! But i definitely agree, WHY NOT COLLEGE? It's better than sitting on our butts at home and it's an opportunity to grow as a person, meet new people, and get an education. In high school, everything was college this and college that and now I wish I would've actually listened to what they said. Lol. But I loved this! I can't wait to read more!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ericka! Your sister really did give you some great advice by telling you to look at college as an investment. Out of all the things I've heard about college, that probably would be the best one yet because college is definitely one of the greatest investments I think we all can make. I also agree with you on the fact that it really is expected for high school graduates to attend college. If not, a lot of people view those that choose not to go as unsuccessful or inadequate, which is definitely not true in all cases! But I really liked your post! And btw, I'm in the band too! ReplyDeleteI've always been told the same thing and always been taught that if I ever wanted to get a good job I was going to have to go to college. Your sister is smart for saying that college is an investment that everyone must choose to do. Now in our world, it is taboo for someone not to go to college; however, it's now normal for college students to not get jobs no matter if you went to college or not.
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely true that today it is pretty much expected that you go to college because without it you will NEVER find a good job! It really is an investement of your time to, because if you dont want to put in the time then it just will not be done, there is no one standing behind you pushing you to do your work anymore.
ReplyDeleteI agree. In this point and time, college has become sort of a stepping stone towards making hard-to-obtain careers easy-to-obtain. And we don't come to college just to get a degree in something, or to simply get better jobs. We also do it to explore a new kind of experience, where basically everyone around us and ourselves are on even ground. And it's our way of learning how to be responsible and mature adults in the process.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. As someone who has had many "overworked and underpaid" jobs over the years, and has even trained individuals to later be my boss, I can tell you that I am definitely ready for a degree. Hopefully the next time I train someone it will be for them to work for me and not the other way around!
ReplyDeleteYour picture is hilarious by the way !!!! I understand exactly where you came from when you said high school teachers constantly went on about what college would be like, and that they all would expect us to go. Your sister was very wise when she said to think about college as an investment .
ReplyDeleteI agree that if you want good job you need education.. Many people don't want to go to college because they just graduated high school, but i believe college is a good investment!
